Arc'teryx Beta LT Gore-Tex jacket

How we look after Gore-Tex jackets

Gore-Tex is only as good as the care it gets. A dirty jacket stops beading water and starts to feel damp even when the membrane is fine. Here is how we look after the Gore-Tex pieces we sell, and how you can keep them working.

Wash it

Dirt, sweat and oils clog the outer fabric. Wash the jacket on a gentle cycle with a technical wash made for waterproofs, not ordinary detergent or fabric softener, which leave residue. Close the zips and loosen the cuffs and hem first.

Reproof it

The outer fabric has a water repellent finish (DWR) that wears off over time. After washing, restore it with a wash-in or spray-on reproofer. Our Gore-Tex pieces are washed and reproofed before they are listed, so they are ready to perform.

Warmth helps

A short, low heat tumble dry or a warm iron on a cloth can help reactivate the finish. Check the care label on your jacket first.

Repairs

Small marks and seam issues can usually be fixed. If a piece has been repaired, we say so in the listing.
