Arc'teryx sizing guide: what size should you buy?

Arc'teryx sizing isn't the same across every jacket. A medium in one jacket can fit very differently from a medium in another. Here is how to get it right, especially when you're buying preloved.

Rough height and weight guide

A quick starting point if you don't know your measurements. This is our rough guide, not an official Arc'teryx chart, so check it against the body measurements below.

Size Height Weight
XXS 5'3" to 5'6" (160-168 cm) 8 to 9 st (50-58 kg)
XS 5'5" to 5'8" (165-173 cm) 8.5 to 10 st (55-65 kg)
S 5'7" to 5'10" (170-178 cm) 9.5 to 11.5 st (62-72 kg)
M 5'9" to 6'0" (175-183 cm) 11 to 12.5 st (70-80 kg)
L 5'11" to 6'2" (180-188 cm) 12.5 to 14 st (78-90 kg)
XL 6'0" to 6'3" (183-191 cm) 14 to 16 st (88-100 kg)
XXL 6'1" to 6'5" (185-195 cm) 15.5 to 17.5 st (98-112 kg)
XXXL 6'2" to 6'6" (188-198 cm) 17.5 to 20 st (110-125 kg)

Build matters as much as height and weight. Broad shoulders or a bigger chest? Go up a size. Slim build and want a trim fit? Stay in the lower end.

Arc'teryx men's size chart

These are body measurements from Arc'teryx, not the measurements of the jacket itself.

Between two sizes? Go up for a looser fit and layers, or down for a snugger fit.

How to measure yourself

  • Chest: around the fullest part, with your arms relaxed at your sides.
  • Waist: at the narrowest part.
  • Hip: feet hip-width apart, at the widest point.
  • Sleeve: from the centre of the back of your neck, across the shoulder, to the wrist with your arm slightly bent.

How popular jackets fit

Trim fit (size up if you layer)

  • Beta LT and Atom SL: a fitted cut that runs snug.
  • Squamish: trim and made for running, so size up for casual wear with layers underneath.

Regular fit (usually your normal size)

  • Beta AR, Alpha SV, Atom LT and Cerium.
  • Gamma LT: regular fit but snug overall.

Think about what you'll wear underneath. A fleece or thick hoodie under a shell calls for more room than a T-shirt.

Buying preloved? Use pit-to-pit

The tag size only tells you so much, because fit varies by model and jackets stretch and settle with wear. The most reliable check is pit-to-pit: lay a jacket you already own flat, and measure straight across from armpit seam to armpit seam. Compare that with the pit-to-pit on the listing. Many of our listings include it in the title.

Quick tips

  • If you're torn between sizes, check how the jacket sits at the hem and sleeves. Alpha and Beta jackets are cut longer in the body and arms for climbing.
  • For ski or snowboard use, size up for layers.
  • Women's jackets have a separate size chart and different cuts.
  • Not sure a preloved piece is the genuine article or fits right? We'll check it for £1.49.
