Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody

Arc'teryx Beta, Atom, Alpha or Gamma: which one is for you?

Arc'teryx names can be confusing. Here is a plain guide to four popular ones.

Beta

A Gore-Tex shell for all-round weather protection. Great for everyday rain and wind. The standard Beta has no pit zips. Newer Beta LT, AR and SL versions do have them, but some older LT and SL models don't, so always check the listing photos.

Atom

A lightweight insulated jacket, often worn as a mid layer or on its own in cool weather. The Atom LT is the perfect all-year-rounder, the Atom SL is lighter and better suited to summer, and the Atom AR is warmer and better for winter.

Alpha

A tougher Gore-Tex Pro shell built for mountain use. Heavier duty and usually pricier than a Beta.

Gamma

The softshell range. Stretchy, breathable and comfortable, with good wind and weather resistance for everyday wear. It is not a fully waterproof shell like a Beta, but it moves better and is great for cooler days. The Gamma LT is the lighter version, and the Gamma MX is fleece lined for extra warmth.

Which should you buy?

Mostly rain and wind: Beta. Warmth without bulk: Atom. Serious weather and heavy use: Alpha. Comfortable everyday weather protection: Gamma. Not sure on size or model? Message us.
