Stone Island sizing guide: older vs newer pieces and seasons
Share
Stone Island generally fits close to your normal size, but cuts change between seasons and between older and newer pieces. Here's how to buy the right size, especially preloved.
Rough height, weight and pit-to-pit guide
A quick starting point if you don't know your measurements. This is our rough guide from handling thousands of pieces, not an official Stone Island chart.

|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 5'5" to 5'8" (165-173 cm) | 8.5 to 10 st (55-65 kg) | about 19.5" (49.5 cm) |
| S | 5'7" to 5'10" (170-178 cm) | 9.5 to 11.5 st (62-72 kg) | about 20.5" (52 cm) |

| XXL | 6'1" to 6'5" (185-195 cm) | 15.5 to 17.5 st (98-112 kg) | about 24" (61 cm) |

Pit-to-pit is measured flat, straight across from armpit seam to armpit seam. These are typical for a regular jacket or overshirt and can be about half an inch either way by season, fabric and style. Sweatshirts and knitwear often measure a little smaller, boxy older pieces a little bigger. Always go by the pit-to-pit on the listing.
Build matters as much as height and weight. Broad shoulders or a bigger chest? Go up a size. Want it snug? Stay at the lower end. Heavier fabrics (Crinkle Reps, Membrana, Ice) feel bulkier, so many people size up in those.
General sizing

- Tops and jackets come in S to 3XL (some older pieces also XS), and are cut as a regular fit. Stone Island's chest range runs from about 92 cm (S) up to about 117 cm (3XL) on the body.
- Trousers come in waist sizes (about 30 to 40) or letter sizes.
- Between two sizes, go up if you'll layer underneath (a hoodie under an overshirt or a jacket), and down if you like a snug fit.
Older vs newer pieces
- Older pieces (1990s to early 2000s): often cut a little shorter and boxier, and can be fabric-heavy, so they feel bigger on the shoulders. Tags can carry Italian sizes (46, 48, 50, 52) as well as letters.
- Newer pieces (roughly the last 10 years): more consistent, closer to the letter size on the tag, and a touch more modern in the body and sleeve.
- Fabric matters: garment-dyed, heavy or coated pieces (Crinkle Reps, Membrana, Ice, Raso Gommato) feel bulkier than soft cotton or Soft Shell-R, and shrink or settle differently with wear and washing.
Check the season
The ART number on the tag includes a season code, which tells you roughly when the piece was made and so which cut you have. Use our Stone Island ART checker to decode it. The checker decodes the season only, it isn't proof of authenticity.
The reliable way: pit-to-pit
Tag size is a guide, season and fabric change the fit. Lay a jacket you already own flat, measure straight across from armpit seam to armpit seam, and compare with the pit-to-pit on the listing. Many of our listings include it.

Quick tips
- Overshirts and jackets: if you wear them open or over a hoodie, size up.
- Knitwear and sweatshirts usually settle with wear, buy your normal size.
- Tag and badge details change by season, see how we authenticate every piece.
